What the companion does and does not do

The companion connects outbound only to NemoDock middleware — your machine never accepts inbound connections. Your Codex credentials and OpenAI login state stay on your machine at all times. The companion sends only session metadata and status to middleware — never raw secrets, credentials, or unrelated local files.

No open ports, no firewall rules needed

Works behind home routers, corporate firewalls, and NAT — because the companion initiates all connections outbound. No static IP, no port forwarding, no VPN required.
